9:00 AM: With an expert guide, you will take the south road to Pachacamac,

Pacha Kamaq (‘Earth-Maker’) was considered the creator god by the people who lived in this part of Peru before the Inca conquest. The Inca took him into their pantheon, but was not an equal of Viracocha, who was seen as being more powerful.

The myths that survive of Pacha Kamaq are sparse and confused: some accounts, for example, identify him as Manco Cápac’s cowardly brother Ayca, while others say that he, Manco Cápac and Viracocha were the sole three sons of Inti, the sun god. Another story says that he made the first man and the first woman, but forgot to give them food – and when the man died and the woman prayed over Pachacamac’s head to his father Inti to make her the mother of all the peoples of earth, Pachacamac was furious. One by one, as the children were born, he tried to kill them – only to be beaten and to be thrown into the sea by her hero-son Wichama, after which he gave up the struggle and contented himself by becoming the supreme god of fish.

After this visit you will be transfer to the Hacienda Mamacona, where you will have lunch and enjoy a beautiful Peruvian Paso horseback riding demonstration.

Then you will enjoy a beautifull tour around Barranco the bohemian neighborhood of Barranco where you will visit la Bajada de los Baños, a charming walkway that leads to the sea where you can try a tradional Peruvian snack of picarones. Your guide will show you street art of local artists nearby.

Anywhere you turn, you’ll see art on the street, live music and lively bars. The Barranco neighborhood also happens to be situated along the coastal cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean, right next to Miraflores, making it the prime spot to view the ocean.

Tour the walkway to the sea that runs through Barranco, called the Bajada de los Baños . Try the Picarones, a traditional Peruvian dessert similar to a donut, made with squash, flour and sweet potatoes, dipped in a sweet syrup of honey and brown sugar at the classic restaurant Javier.

The purpose of these depressions is uncertain, but their depth, design, and orientation with respect to wind and sun creates a temperature difference of as much as 15 °C (27 °F) between the top and the bottom. It is possible that this large temperature difference was used by the Inca to study the effects of different climatic conditions on crops. Speculation about the site has led to discussion about Moray as an Inca agricultural experiment station. Its microclimatic conditions and other significant characteristics led to the use of the site as a center for the ancient study of domestication, acclimatization, and hybridization of wild vegetable species that were modified or adapted for human consumption.

The water, which is exposed to the sun, leaves salt on the bed. Viewed from above, the myriad of rectangles look like an enormous painting designed by nature.

Machu Picchu was never revealed to the conquering Spaniards and was virtually forgotten until the early part of the 20 th century when a young American historian Hiram Bingham discovered this lost city in 1911.

It was built by the Inca Pachacutec in the 15 th Century and is perched between two peaks offering incredible views of the Urubamba river valley and the snow-capped mountains in the distance. The architecture is adapted to the natural form of the mountains. Approximately 200 buildings are arranged on wide parallel terraces around a vast central square that is oriented east-west. The temples are part of the upper town, the warehouses the lower. Extensive terraces were used for agriculture and sophisticated channeling systems provided irrigation for the fields. Numerous stone stairways set in the walls allowed access to the different levels across the site. The eastern section of the city was said to be residential. The western, separated by the square, was for religious and ceremonial purposes.
